In 2024, following the passage of the Anti-Homosexuality Act and increased hostility towards key populations, AWAC was evicted from our premises. We were forced to relocate to a temporary and unsafe space—shared with university students, lacking privacy, security, and accessibility for our most vulnerable members. Clients—especially transgender sex workers, women who use drugs, and FSWs living with disabilities—faced daily violations of privacy and confidentiality. Health consultations were interrupted, counseling sessions overheard, and safety constantly at risk. This environment undermined everything we stand for. So, with immense effort and support from our grassroots network, AWAC acquired land and property for a permanent office and Livelihood Centre in Kampala. But to make it fully functional, inclusive, and secure, we need your support.
