Dear Reader,
Welcome back to yet another newsletter highlighting what has been happening at AWAC in the last quarter. This quarter was marked by a flurry of activities, achievements, and new initiatives that have had a profoundly positive impact on our grassroots members. We’ve made significant strides in promoting human rights, fostering socioeconomic resilience, and ensuring access to inclusive, universal healthcare – all of which have contributed to meaningful improvements in the lives of our grassroots members.
There is a growing dissent to the SRHR and human rights work we do that has necessitated that we amplify our advocacy. AWAC commemorated a post International Sex Workers Day by holding a press conference spotlighting our challenges and triumphs as human rights defenders in addressing human rights violations affecting our grassroots members. Further still, we continued to capacitate our grassroots members on community journalism.
As an inclusive organization and in bid to empower the next generation, our Make Way Programme in humanitarian settings registered significant milestones, young people are beginning to get a seat in decision making tables. Our District Community Rights Advocates continue to go above and beyond consistently engaging duty bearers and stakeholders to respect, promote and fulfill FSWs’ human rights participating in local government engagements as well as providing access to SRHR services. In the same reporting period, the partnership building and networking continued. We additionally, hosted a media café to find ways of bringing on board journalists to bring balanced narratives to the discourse around SRHR as well as the human rights of sex workers. Moreso in solidarity with other organisations that are making impact we participated in partner events and trainings. We also made waves on mainstream media to inform the stakeholders about our grassroots movement and innovative ways of work which reap impact and contribute to attainment of SDGs.
Our gratitude goes to you our dedicated readers for your continued support of our newsletter.
